The regal bald eagle and the often-feared gray wolf, both once on a near-certain collision course with extinction in Michigan, have staged such stunning comebacks that the state wants to remove them from its endangered and threatened species list.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is hosting public hearings this month on what would be the most extensive revision of the list since 1999.
Representatives from Allstate, Cambridge Systematics, Delta Air Lines and U-Haul International joined The Conservation Fund and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service today to announce the restoration of 775 acres of forestland at Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge near Kansas City.
